Frequently asked questions: Share photos

Overview

When you invite friends to see your online photos, we send an email invitation to them on your behalf. The email contains:
  • The name of the album(s) shared
  • Step-by-step instructions on how to view the shared photos
  • A personalised message (if you wish)
Your friends click on a link within the email, which brings them to the Snapfish website. There, they type in their email address and choose a password. This creates a new account, where your friends will be able to view the photos you invited them to see.

In addition to being able to see the photos you shared, your friends can order their own reprints or enlargements at no cost to you.

Sharing photos is entirely free.

How to share a photo or album

From your photo or album, click the share icon at the bottom of the album or photo and a window will appear where you can select your sharing method and recipients.

  2. Click on Share photos in the menu that appears.
  3. Click the 'share with an email link' tab on the share page.
  4. TO: In the 'To' field, type the email addresses you want to share with, separating each address with a comma or line break. If you prefer, you can also enter addresses from your address book by clicking on 'Address Book.' A pop-up window will appear where you can select recipients. Then click 'Choose addresses.'
NOTE: your friends will see only their own email addresses and not those of the other recipients.
  5. SUBJECT: We include a default subject line on your behalf. If you prefer, you can write a personal subject in the "subject" text box.
  6. MESSAGE: We include a default message in the email on your behalf. If you prefer, you can write a personal greeting in the "message" text box. After your greeting, instructions to your recipients on how to view your photo(s) will be included in the email.
  7. ALLOW RE-SHARE: You can decide whether you want your recipients to share your photos and albums with their friends. To allow it, check the 'Allow re-share' box. To undo your choice, uncheck the box.
NOTE: By allowing re-share, your friends will be able to copy your shared photos into their own accounts and even create photo gifts with your shared photos.
  8. SEND: Click the 'Share photo or Share album' button to email the photo(s) to your recipients.

Guest Book

Overview
The guest book is a fun way for you and your friends to have a conversation about the photos you share. Each of the albums in your account has a guest book.

View your Guest Books
  1. Log in to your account, and click on the album you want to view.
  2. Click on the 'View guest book' link below the menu on the right side of the page.
  3. You can also access the Guest Book when viewing a single photo in the enlarged view.
From any of your Guest Books, you can:
  • See how many people have viewed your album
  • Add comments of your own
  • Remove individual friends' comments
  • De-activate your Guest Book, preventing friends from accessing it
  • Re-activate your Guest Book if it was previously de-activated
Note: Any changes you make to one of your Guest Books, such as de-activating it, apply only to that Guest Book and not to your other albums' Guest Books.

View a friend's Guest Books
Friends' albums in your account also have Guest Books, accessible from the 'Sign the guest book' link below the menu on the right side of the page. (This link appears in the album or photo view.) If a Guest Book is active, you can read others' comments and add your own by clicking on the 'Add your comments' link.

How to use the Guest Book
Whenever a new album is added to your account, a Guest Book for that album is created. When you share that album with friends, your Guest Book is automatically shared. When your friends log in to view your album, they can click on the 'Guest Book' link to read or add their own comments.

For example, if you share an album with your sister and brother, both of them can add comments, and they can read each other's comments. As the album owner, you can also add your own comments.

De-activating a Guest Book
If you would like to prevent friends from reading and/or adding comments to your album, complete these steps:

  • Log in to your account, and click on the album you want to view.
  • Click on the 'Guest Book' link above the photos near the top right of the page.
  • A pop-up window will appear. Click 'Close Guest Book to visitors.'

  • You can de-activate a Guest Book before or after you share the album. As the album owner, you still have access to the Guest Book, but friends will not be able to access it.

De-activating your Guest Book does not permanently delete the comments that are in it. To remove individual comments, click the 'Remove' link under each comment.

    Share photos

With whom can I share my photos?
You can share your photos with anyone who has an email address and can see Web pages.

Can I share one photo from an album?
Yes, you can. To share a single photo while viewing your album, click 'Share photos' in the menu on the right side of the page. Then click 'Share this photo.'

Can I share more than one album at a time?
Yes, you can. Learn how to share multiple albums.

Can I share only certain photos from an album, or do I have to share the whole thing?
When you share an album, your friends will see the entire album. However, before sharing an album, you can decide which photos will stay in that album. Learn how to move photos.

    The Share invitation email

What does the email invitation look like when my friends receive it?
The 'From' line on the email will be the first and last name on your Snapfish account. The 'To' line on the email will contain only the email address of an individual recipient. Individual recipients of a share email can not see the email addresses of anyone else who was invited to see your photos.

The 'Subject' line of the email is standardized by default, however, you may overwrite it. The main part of the email will contain the personalised message that you typed in, plus instructions on how to see your photo or album(s) and a link to your photos. It will also contain the first photo in the album you shared.

Will the invitation email tell my invited friends what to do?
The email tells your recipients exactly how to see your pictures. All your recipients have to do is click on the link provided and then type in their email address and choose a password.

Are there any email attachments involved?
There are no attachments to emails sent from the Snapfish website. The pictures your friends see are securely stored in the Snapfish computer system, and they are viewed on the Snapfish website.

Can I write a personal message or change anything in the album invite?
Yes, you may personalise the subject line and main message that will be sent to your recipients when you invite them to see your photos. The instructions on how to see your photos cannot be changed.

What do I do if I decide I do not want to share?
If you have not already clicked 'Share these albums', just click the 'Cancel' button. The invitation email will not be sent.

How do I know that the invitation was sent?
You will see a confirmation page that contains the name of the albums and the list of email addresses from the invitation. You can also choose to receive a copy of the email by checking the 'Send me a copy' box below the message field during the sharing process.

    After sharing

Once I have shared photos, what can my friends do with them?
By signing in to Snapfish using an email address and a password, your friends can see the album, order prints and photo gifts, and share the album with whomever they choose. Your friends cannot move, edit, re-caption, or delete the photos within your album. Only you can make changes to your album.

Can people I share with order reprints? Who pays for them?
Yes, anyone you share photos with can order reprints on their own, at no cost to you. You will never be charged for an order that someone else places.

What do you do with the email addresses of people I share with?
The email addresses are added to your Snapfish Address Book, so you can share albums again without having to re-type email addresses. Snapfish never uses these email address in any other way.

Making changes to a shared album

If I share an album and then make changes to it, can my friends see the changes?
Yes. You still own your album; your recipients just have an invitation to see it. If you want to add photos to an album, update photo captions, etc., your invited recipients will see these changes in your album.

When I share an album, can other people make changes to it?
No. Only the album's original owner can make changes to the album.

If I share an album and then to delete it, can invited friends still see the album in their accounts?
No. After you delete an album, your invited friends will no longer be able to see it.

I have shared an album but do not want anyone to see it anymore. What can I do?
If you have already shared an album with friends, the only way you can prevent them from seeing it is to delete it. In order not to lose your photos, just move all the photos into a new album and then delete the old, empty album.

    Privacy

Why do my friends have to sign up when I share my pictures with them?
When we ask your friends to create their own accounts, we ensure the privacy and security of your photos.

When I share with someone, do they have access to my account and other albums?
Absolutely not! When you share an album with a friend, only that specific album can be seen by your friend. The photos are viewed in your friends'' own password-protected account on the Snapfish site.

Can the public see my photos?
No. The only people who see your photos are the people who receive an email invitation from you. People who receive an email invitation from you can also invite friends to view these photos by sending an email invitation.
