But it&#8217;s tricky, too. The bright white of snow and ice reflects sunlight, and you end up with too much light in your pictures. This means less detail, less contrast, and washed-out colours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Turn on your flash:<\/em> More light may seem like the last thing you need, but the flash actually balances out the light off the snow, filling in darker areas, so you get the picture you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Go for contrast and colour&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Winter&#8217;s sparse landscapes make great subjects, especially when punctuated with contrasting shapes and colours, such as trees, buildings, animals, or loved ones in bright clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shooting bright colours against a snowy backdrop makes a vivid winter photo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.snapfish.co.uk\/photo-printing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.snapfish.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/472188595.jpg\" alt=\"Little boys in winter forest\" class=\"wp-image-1044\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Capture winter action&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Skiing, snowboarding, and sledding make great action photos.
